On Occasion, an unlucky run on the Dice might result in a particular Conflict going incredibly poorly for the Party. It happens to the best of us, and whilst often regarded as a rite of passage or important cornerstone of these earlier presentations, sometimes a session can be abruptly cut short in this way. In other situations, there may be different shared expectations for a table, or an agreed upon adjustment to the types of consequences that might befall the Characters.
In these situations, I am a major fan of the concept of Wampus’ [Getting Worse](https://wampuscountry.blogspot.com/2012/09/getting-worse.html) approach. Sometimes there are ways to escalate or change the stakes that are more appealing than having to roll up an entire Party of New Characters. I find that particularly in games with Younger Players, we’ll often find ourselves taking “Character Death” off the table completely, so I like to have a lot of other options in my back pocket, just in case, to offset those untimely ends. Sometimes being forced to scour the Goblin’s Smelly Laundry is even deemed a fate worse than death by those Players!
Many of these put the Characters “in a tough spot” and might serve as springboards for complicated plans of escape or other bits of daring-do to re-frame the current Adventure. If you occasionally deign to indulge that softer side of your Referee Role or are just simply looking for some alternative outcomes for those fickle math rocks, then this Table might come in handy. Even if this isn’t your table’s particular cup of tea, there might be some fun Adventure Seeds stewing within!
