Monster Character Class Options

Here’s something I’ve been adding to sporadically: A collection of Monster Character Classes (along with atrocious art by yours truly!). These should be usable with BECMI or B/X (and the other assorted games that treat Demihumans as separate Classes) without much tinkering.

So far, we have the Arenea, Living Statue, Harpy, Gnoll, Tortoisefok, Flutterlings, and the Lizard Man. I have been tempted to go through one of my favorites, the venerable Creature Catalog, and craft some Classes for each of the stranger sentient beings in there.

Open to any suggestions of other Monsters that you might like to see given this sort of treatment!

  1. I like these options quite a bit! The implementation of Harpy is simple, but seem to different enough from a plain fighter to be a fun option without being straight upgrade. I think the Flutterlings are my favorite of the bunch. Is the intent of the swarm's size requirement for spells meant to be their Max HP or Current HP?

    1. Thank you! My intent was originally to go with Current HP (so if you lose individuals, it kinda discretely limits the Songs you have access to...they have higher HD, but they are still relatively fragile characters). The "re-roll all HD" each time a level is gained should hopefully take the sting out of rolling low, and over a long enough timeframe should grant access to better songs. I did think about being a bit more generous (re-roll had to be higher than prior level's HP) and that might work a little better :)
